Pemko Automatic Door Bottoms

• Pemko automatic door bottoms provide a positive seal between the door and the floor or threshold when the door is closed. There are three basic designs:
• Full-mortise mount. Suitable for wooden doors only. Installed in a deep mortise routed in the bottom edge of the door.
  


• Surface mount. Suitable for wooden or metal doors. Screwed to the face of the door. This style may also be semi-mortised in a wooden door; in this case they are flush with the face of the door.
  


• Commercial hollow metal door mount. Mounts in 13/16" deep channel in bottom edge of most commercial hollow metal doors (not for residential metal doors).
  


• The photo at right shows the hinge end of a surface-mounted model installed on a wooden door. End plate is removed to show mechanism and neoprene seal. When the hexagonal plunger contacts the door jamb, the drop-bar is forced down to form a seal with the threshold.

How They Work:

• Pemko automatic door bottoms consist of an aluminum case which surrounds a movable drop-bar seal. The drop-bar seal is actuated by a plunger which contacts the jamb as the door is closing, forcing the drop-bar seal down against the floor/threshold.
  


• The patented mechanism causes the drop-bar seal to actuate on the hinge side first. This prevents the seal from skidding along the floor/threshold while the door is being closed, and the door will not hang up.
  

Features of Pemko Automatic Door Bottoms:

• NOTE: We recommend that these automatic door bottoms be installed by a carpenter or contractor or other person with experience hanging doors. Installation may involve rehanging the door and cutting it to height.  For the full-mortise styles, it also involves cutting a deep mortise in the bottom edge of the door with a router. Pemko does provide installation instructions.
  


• Designed to seal up to a 3/4" gap under the door, except for the type designed for commercial hollow metal doors (Model #420), which seals a 1/2" gap.
  


• Automatic door bottoms (in stock lengths) can be trimmed down in length by as much as 2"
